Held on 20th April 2016 on the Princess Haya Theatre at Wellington International School, Dubai
Wednesday, 20th April 2016, saw the launch of the very first GEMS Night at the Musicals, which took place at GEMS Wellington International School.
The evening gave GEMS schools the opportunity to showcase solo and group extracts from their shows, as well as to compete against each other for the best solo performance, best group performance and best overall performance.
7 GEMS schools were represented in the event this year (WIS, WSO, WEK, JC, JPS, OIS and BPA) with extracts from a diverse range of musicals including Oliver, Annie, Peter Pan, Anything Goes, The Wizard of Oz, Little Shop of Horrors, Rent and even Glee – The Musical!
The evening was hosted by Giulia Signorelli, a Year 12 Music Student at WIS and the closing words and thanks were given by Sir Christopher Stone, Chief Education Officer for GEMS.
The judges were Gina Peach, Producer and DJ for Abu Dhabi Classic FM, and Sacha Kilgour, a performer and singing teacher also from Abu Dhabi. The standard of performances presented was extremely high and the judges had a tough time making decisions about the final awards:
“I just wanted to say thank you again for such a wonderful evening on Wednesday! We thoroughly enjoyed it, and only wished we had more awards to give out!”

“I want to thank you for organizing this wonderful event, and for letting us participate.
Being there at the event, and watching all the other schools and their fabulous performances opened a whole NEW world of musicals to my students. Thanks to them, I am sure my students are inspired as I am, and now we've found new areas of performance to tread on, and learn.”
Joseph Peter, Music Teacher, OIS
