GEMS Young Musician of the Year 2016 Competition

On Friday 29 January 2016, the Final of the second GEMS Young Musician of the Year competition took place at GEMS Wellington Academy, Al Khail.  The evening was successfully hosted by the Head Students from WIS, Sebastian Menelaou and Manaswni Dhingra.

For this years’ competition, 30 students from 8 GEMS schools took part in masterclasses together, worked together and competed against each other for the title of GEMS Young Musician of the Year 2016.

Following masterclasses with GEMS instrumental specialists in round 1, 10 students were selected to go through to Round 2, from where just 5 finalists were selected.  The 5 finalists were:

Chihoon Choi – a pianist from WIS

Dylan Ahn – a violinist from GWA

Leyth Elmani – a violinist from JC

Seejin Lee – a pianist from DAA

Boglarka Kurucz – a vocalist from WSO

The judges for the final were Mrs Fiona Cottam, GEMS Senior Vice President – Schools and His Excellency, Ming Foong Cheong, Consulate-General of the Republic of Singapore in Dubai.

The title of GEMS Young Musician of the Year 2016 went to Chihoon Choi from WIS.
